21 July 2014 - On July 12, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales and Philippine Embassy representatives joined an audience composed of members of the Filipino community and locals in Singapore for a night of nostalgic music by Jim Paredes and Boboy Garovillo of the famed Apo Hiking Society at the Lee Foundation Theatre.
The live one-night performance in Singapore, dubbed “Jim and Boboy celebrate 45 years of APOMusic”, was organized by the Philippine Property Expo in collaboration with Lechon Nation, Calle Real and OFW Pinoy Star as official media partner. Singapore-based Filipino group, “The Psalmideo Chorale”, presented the front act.
The Apo Hiking Society has officially retired in 2010 but it remains widely popular particularly among Filipinos in the Philippines and abroad who literally grew up with its songs.
For over four decades, the group has produced a total of 27 albums including huge hits and has performed in many parts of the world. The group is also recognized for spearheading the promotion of the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) movement.
The group’s longevity, brand of music and success has made Apo Hiking Society an inspiration to many musical bands in the Philippines. It has the distinction of being the first Filipino band to perform in an open concert in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. END
