Ambassador Ledda likewise recognized the ongoing cooperation between the EU and ASEAN in building both national and regional DRR capacities, noting in particular the active partnerships between the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) and the AHA Centre. He encouraged both regions to continue exploring ways to advance mutually-beneficial activities, including in harnessing modern technologies and innovation, expanding projects under the Global Gateway facility, and leveraging ASEAN Member States’vast experience and knowledge in dealing with natural disasters and other crises.
The panelists from the European institutions and international humanitarian organizations commended ASEAN’s stature as a global leader in DRR knowledge and innovation. Even with the challenging environment in global development cooperation, they committed to continue supporting EU-ASEAN activities on DRR, highlighting opportunities for capacity-building, and exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices between the regions.
