Philippines Reaffirms Commitment to Advance Space Science Applications in Support of Sustainable Development

Ms. Reinabelle C. Reyes, Director of the Space Science Bureau of the Philippine Space Agency, highlights the Philippines’ efforts in advancing the local space sector through research and development, and international cooperation at the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space on 03-14 February 2026 at the Vienna International Centre.

VIENNA 26 February 2025 - The Philippines highlighted the crucial role of space science and technology in advancing sustainable development, strengthening disaster resilience, and promoting global collaboration at the 62nd Session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC) on 03-14 February 2025 in Vienna.

The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) emphasized its ongoing initiatives, such as the establishment of the Copernicus Mirror Site under the Copernicus Capacity Support Action Programme (CopPhil), regional dialogues on space data utilization, and its active participation in Sentinel Asia for disaster management.

Experts from PhilSA also delivered two (2) technical presentations on space weather research and the contributions of Philippine space technology initiatives to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Philippines looks forward to expanding international cooperation and strengthening its position as a key player in the Southeast Asian region. The Philippines will host the 31st Session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-31) scheduled in November 2025, in Cebu, Philippines.

The Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC) meets every year for two weeks to discuss questions related to the scientific and technical aspects of space activities. END
