Philippines Calls for the Urgent Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty
Ambassador and Permanent Representative Evangelina A. Bernas reaffirms the Philippines’ profound commitment to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation at the 64th Session of Working Group B of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization on 18-28 February 2025 at the Vienna International Centre
VIENNA 26 February 2025 - The Philippines reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and the global effort to eliminate nuclear testing at the 64th Session of Working Group B of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test- Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) on 18-28 February in Vienna.
Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative Evangelina A. Bernas called for the universalization and urgent entry into force of the CTBT, recognizing the Treaty as a cornerstone of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation as well as its critical role in maintaining peace and security.
As an active participant in the Treaty’s verification regime, the Philippines hosts three International Monitoring Systems (IMS) stations in Tanay, Tagaytay, and Davao. The IMS is a unique global network which monitors nuclear explosions around the world.
Working Group B is one of the two subsidiary groups of the Preparatory Commission of the CTBTO which deals with verification issues. Working Group A on budgetary and administrative issues are chaired by the Philippines. END
