Philippines Renews Call for Commitment to Rules-Based International Order at 37th ASEAN-Australia Forum

JAKARTA 27 February 2025 – Recalling the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit held in 2024, Philippine Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro renewed the President’s call for commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes and the rules-based international order in the face of complex regional challenges on 20 February 2025.
In her intervention the Undersecretary expressed the Philippines’ deep appreciation to Australia for its steadfast support for the rule of law, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and the binding 2016 Arbitral Award. She recognized Australia’s timely statements reaffirming the rule of law and active support for peace and security across ASEAN mechanisms such as the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting Plus, East Asia Summit, and the ASEAN Regional Forum.
