PHNOM PENH 03 March 2025 – The Vice President of the Canadia Group and the Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) Dr. Lim Lina received Philippine Ambassador Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo for a tour of the Techo Takhmao International Airport in Phnom Penh on 22 February 2025.
During the walkthrough, Ambassador Mayo was introduced to 27 Filipino engineering consultants overseeing the airport’s project lifecycle—from planning to completion—under the banner of South Korea’s Heerim Architects & Planners. They are helping ensure that the airport project stays on budget and schedule while meeting quality standards in all aspects of the building process including design, procurement, construction, inspection and commissioning. “The Philippine Embassy is proud of your contributions to this massively significant infrastructure project, touted to become the world’s 9th largest airport. True to the reputation of Filipino professionals, your role here is a testament to world-class Filipino talent,” Ambassador Mayo told them.
For her part, Dr. Lim acknowledged the support of all consultants, suppliers, and business partners and expressed confidence that the TIA was on track to becoming “the world’s most beautiful, sustainable, and reliable airports”.
In a related development, OCIC’s Camtech University is partnering with the Philippines’ renowned World Citi Colleges Aeronautical and Technological College (WCC-ATC) to explore the possibility of putting up an aviation academy with courses such as aeronautical engineering, aircraft maintenance technology and tourism in support of the future growth of the Techo International Airport (TIA) and Cambodia’s expanding aviation industry. Dr. Lina thanked Ambassador Mayo for facilitating business-to-business links that led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Camtech University and WCC-ATC in February 2025.
The TIA is a $1.5 billion joint venture between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC). The airport is expected to open in July 2025.
Of the 7,000 Filipino workers in Cambodia, the Philippine Embassy estimates that 37% comprise professionals who are lending their expertise to Cambodia’s national development efforts. During his official visit to the Philippines on 10-11 February 2025, Prime Minister Hun Manet recognized the vital role of the Filipino community in Cambodia in the country’s socioeconomic progress.
