PH Consulate General in Los Angeles Hosts Second Part of Briefing on Immigration Developments for Filipinos in the US

LOS ANGELES 27 March 2025 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles held the second installment of the two-part hybrid seminar entitled, Briefing on Immigration Developments for Filipinos in the U.S. on 13 March 2025.

Building on Part 1 that aimed at helping Filipinos understand their rights relevant to their immigration status in the U.S., Part 2 provided a briefer on key developments in U.S. immigration laws and the corresponding changes in processes that Filipinos need to know.

Deputy Consul General Maria Alnee A. Gamble opened the session by conveying the Consulate’s appreciation to the Filipino-American lawyers for advocating for the well-being of Filipinos in the U.S., as well as to the participants for attending and promoting the activity.

Atty. Gladys V. Gervacio set the tone of the seminar by discussing changes in the processing of employment-based visas, including H-1B visas, and the new trends in their adjudication.

For the second presentation, Atty. Ed Allan Lindain tackled the role of the U.S. Department of State in implementing U.S. immigration policies, and provided practical tips for Filipinos applying for U.S. visas at the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines.

For the last presentation, Atty. Marlon B. Baldomero talked about Executive Order No. 14159 entitled, “Protecting the American People Against Invasion”, which requires select immigrants to register with the U.S. government, and dovetailed this with earlier discussions on the rules of expedited removal.

The seminar culminated in a Q&A portion where participants were able to seek further clarifications on their immigration-related concerns.
