PH Consulate General in San Francisco Urges Public to Support Filipino-American Food Businesses For 2025 Filipino Food Crawl - Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO 14 April 2025 – The annual celebration every April of Filipino Food Month has kicked into high gear in the Bay Area, as the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco unveiled the 2025 Filipino Food Crawl - Bay Area at a kick-off event at the Philippine Center’s Kalayaan Hall on 10 April 2025.
The Consulate, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Silicon Valley, and the Department of Tourism (DOT) Office in San Francisco teamed up with Filipino Food Movement, the San Francisco Filipino American Chamber of Commerce, the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Silicon Valley, and the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Solano County for a project that turns the spotlight on Bay Area-based businesses that are “ambassadors” of Filipino food in the United States.
In his remarks, Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Ferrer said that while “Filipino cuisine has long been a part of the global food scene, it is here in the Bay Area that we see a flourishing of new Filipino restaurants and food concepts, as well as food innovators and culinary enthusiasts who are bringing the flavors of the Philippines to the world.”
Consul General Ferrer added that Filipino American chefs are gaining national recognition in the United States, especially those who were nominated for the 2025 James Beards Awards, one of America’s most illustrious culinary honors.
“Oakland, California’s very own Monique Feybesse, along with spouse Paul, was recognized as a semifinalist for ‘Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker.’ Also within the Consulate’s jurisdiction, Archipelago—an intimate Filipino dining place in Seattle, Washington—made it as a finalist for ‘Outstanding Hospitality,’” the Philippine Consul General noted.
“Over the next three weeks, I encourage all of you to visit our participating Filipino restaurants, cafes, bakeshops, food trucks, pop-ups and virtual restaurants, where you will have the opportunity to taste, learn about, and celebrate Filipino cuisine in its many forms. Especially for those who are exploring Filipino food for the first time beyond the lumpia and ube, Filipino Food Crawl – Bay Area offers an exciting way to explore and enjoy the culinary gems of our community,” Consul General Ferrer said.
Tourism Director Soleil Tropicales gave her remarks to announce the raffle prizes for the food crawl, as well as to invite the attendees to the 2025 Very Important Pinoy (VIP) Tour in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Trade Commissioner Anne Marie Kristine Umali invited the audience to the 2025 IFEX Philippines, the country’s biggest trade show for Philippine food, beverages and ingredients, which will take place on 22-24 May 2025 in Metro Manila.
Aside from launching the 2025 Filipino Food Crawl - Bay Area, the kick-off event also served as a networking mixer, with Filipino food establishments and food purveyors able to link up with other prominent members of the Filipino American Community.
PTIC Silicon Valley took the opportunity to give away samples of Philippine-manufactured food products from BF Imports, Philippine Sea Salts by XRoads LLC, Profood Tropical Fruits Inc., and Tamcor-Mexim USA.
Filipino food and beverages served during the kick-off event were provided by the following Bay Area-based Filipino food establishments: Angelicakes, Carabao Napa, Roline’s Uniquely Filipino, Julsilog, Selecta, TeaJ’s Boba Truck, The Cats Los Gatos, Tita Weewin’s Empanadas, and Whisk Cake Creations.
During the Filipino Food Crawl - Bay Area from 14 to 30 April 2025, the public may join the program by dining in or ordering from any of the participating food establishments around the Bay Area.
Each visit may earn a person an entry to join the raffle, by sending post a screenshot of their social media post with the hashtag #FilipinoFoodCrawlBayArea and a photo of their single-order receipt with a minimum amount of $25.00. The winners of the raffle will be drawn after the deadline for the submission of raffle entries on 5 May 2025.
The Filipino Food Crawl - Bay Area has 21 participating Filipino food establishments, representing restaurants, cafes, bakeshops, food trucks, virtual restaurants or ghost kitchens, and pop-up stalls: Angelicakes; Carabao Napa; Grill City at Seafood City Supermarket (with four locations); Izzy & Wooks; Julsilog; Kona Ice; LouLou’s Leche Flan; Mama Go’s Filipino Cuisine; Pinoy’s Place by Kusina; Selecta; Señor Sisig (with four locations); Silly Grace; Sue’s Place; Sweet Pipers; TeaJ’s Boba Truck; The Cats Los Gatos; The Original Luisa & Son Bakeshop; The Sarap Shop; Tita Weewin’s Empanadas; Very Brave Coffee; and Whisk Creations.
