Books That Bridge Cultures: New Additions to Barcelona’s Philippine Library Mark National Literature Month
Five publications to be added to the Silid Aklatan of the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona donated by Vibal Publishing House
BARCELONA 16 April 2025 — In celebration of the 2025 National Literature Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Philippine culture through literature, in line with this year’s theme, “SIKAD Panitikan: Kultura at Panitikan ng Kaunlaran,” which highlights the role of literature and culture in national development.
In support of this advocacy, the Consulate continues to enhance Silid Aklatan, its cultural resource center for the Filipino community and the general public. As part of this effort, Mr. Gaspar A. Vibal, President of Vibal Publishing House, personally turned over five significant publications to the Consulate. The donated titles include Dictionary of Philippine Mythology, Colonial Philately: Philippine Postage Stamps 1854–1946, A Visual Guide to Philippine Food, El Español en Filipinas (authored by Mr. Vibal), and Piña Futures: Weaving Memories and Innovations.
These additions further enrich the library’s collection, reflecting key dimensions of Philippine history, language, culinary heritage, and folklore. They offer valuable insights for Filipinos and international readers alike.
The Philippine Consulate General expresses its appreciation to Mr. Vibal for his generous contribution and encourages members of the Filipino community, youth, and scholars in Barcelona to explore the Silid Aklatan collection, including its online catalogue. Initiatives such as this form part of the Consulate’s ongoing efforts to promote Philippine literature and strengthen cultural engagement within Spain and beyond. END
