ABU DHABI 23 April 2025 — In a milestone step towards deepening bilateral relations and fostering mutual commitment to public safety and national security, the Republic of the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) formalized their cooperation through the signing of the Agreement on Security Cooperation on 21 April 2025 in Abu Dhabi, during the official visit of Secretary Remulla to the UAE capital.

The signing of the agreement marks a pivotal moment in the longstanding partnership between the two nations, underscoring their shared commitment to the rule of law, peace, and regional stability. The bilateral agreement seeks to enhance cooperation in addressing security threats through the exchange of information and the implementation of joint initiatives designed to prevent, detect, and combat various forms of transnational and organized crime. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, cybercrime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other forms of serious criminal activity.

Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Alfonso A. Ver, welcomed the signing of the agreement and hailed it as a milestone in Philippine-UAE relations. “While over the years, the security sectors of the UAE and the Philippines have cooperated in various capacities, the signing of this agreement institutionalizes that collaboration. It provides a strategic framework that will guide our future engagements in a more structured, sustainable, and effective manner,” Ambassador Ver stated. He further emphasized that the agreement reflects not only the shared security interests of both countries but also the deepening trust and mutual respect that characterize Philippine-UAE relations.

The Agreement on Security Cooperation also reinforces the broader vision of both governments to promote good governance, uphold international law, and advance mutual prosperity through strong and effective partnerships and is expected to open more avenues for dialogue, training, and technical collaboration between the law enforcement and public safety institutions of both countries, thereby strengthening resilience against evolving global security threats.
