PH Embassy Calls for Revisiting Legacy of Bandung as South-South Cooperation Remains a Pillar of PH Foreign Policy and Development Agenda

JAKARTA 25 April 2025 – Philippine Embassy in Jakarta Charge d’Affaires Gonaranao B. Musor of the served as a panelist during the public discussion organized by independent research institution, Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS), entitled “Echoes of Bandung: Reinventing South-South Cooperation” on 15 April 2025.

Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, the event sought to provide a platform for dialogue on the current state of Asia-Africa relations and explore potential avenues for deeper engagement. 

Charge d’Affaires Musor was joined by Mr. Muhammad Zulfikar Rakhmat, Director of the MENA-Indonesia Desk of CELIOS; Mr. Witjaksono Adji, Director for Asia-Pacific and African Intra-Regional and Inter-Regional Cooperation of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Dinna Prapto Raharja, Executive Director/Founder Synergy Policies; and Mr. Vickesh Maharaj, CDA of the South African Embassy. 

In his presentation, Charge d’Affaires Musor provided the Philippine perspective on South-South Cooperation, including some of the country’s recent engagements that reflect this commitment, as well as PH’s priority themes. 

“South-South Cooperation is not a novel idea - it is a long-standing pillar of our foreign policy and development agenda. We have always believed that developing countries, by working together, can achieve meaningful progress grounded in shared experience, mutual understanding, and regional solidarity,” Charge d’Affaires Musor emphasized.

Going back to the title of the forum, “Reinventing South-South Cooperation”, Charge d’Affaires Musor also called for countries to “revisit, and not just remember, the legacy of Bandung, as we continue to find its meaning in the context of current international developments. 70 years since the Bandung Conference was convened, many things have changed in terms of the stakeholders and concepts involved that require us to look at it from a fresh perspective.” END
