PH Robotics National Team Places Third in First Lego League in Greece

ATHENS 08 May 2025 — The Philippine Robotics National Team represented by Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc. (DYCI) once again won an award in Greece by placing 3rd place in the First Lego League (FLL) Open International Championship 2025  held on 02-04 May 2025 in Corinth, Greece.

The Philippine Robotics National Team’s robotic project is designed for early detection of harmful algal blooms (HABs) whose excessive growth results in fish kills.  The Philippine entry to the competition also included features such as voice command and sign language for the deaf and visually impaired.

Around 50 countries, including the Philippines participated in the FLL Open International Championship 2025 in Greece

Prior to the robotics competition, Philippine Ambassador to Greece Giovanni E. Palec met with the Philippine Team to encourage the young students for the competition and told them to remain curious in learning and to pursue their interests, especially in science, technology and innovation.

The FLL competition aims to introduce science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to young people aged 04-16 through fun and exciting learning activities.  It gathers participants from around the world and challenges them to solve real-world problems through a guided global robotics program enhancing their creativity, critical thinking and skills in programming and engineering.  The FLL’s theme was “Submerged” in order to bring attention to the current situation and challenges affecting the underwater ecosystem.

This is the second time that the Philippine Robotics National Team achieved a placement in Greece as it successfully won the bronze medal in the Sofia Kovaleskaya Award Category during the FIRST Global Challenge 2024 held in Athens, Greece in September 2024. END
