Philippines Renews Support to UN Peacekeeping and Defense Cooperation with Germany
BERLIN 19 May 2025 — Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to support UN peacekeeping efforts around the globe during the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference held in Berlin from 13-14 May 2025.
Secretary Teodoro paid tribute to the 70,000 peacekeepers serving in various missions around the world and announced the Philippine pledge of one infantry battalion and one formed police unit to the UN Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System. He also pledged to increase the participation of women in peacekeeping missions and announced that the Philippines will host the ASEAN Peacekeeping Staff Exercise in September 2025, as well as the UN Triangular Partnership Program in the ASEAN Region for the year 2029 -2030.
On the margins of the conference, Secretary Teodoro and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation that seeks to promote technical cooperation between the Philippines and Germany in the areas of security, defence, and military policy; defence administration; training and capacity building; humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; and defence equipment and logistics.
