BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 22 May 2025 — The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Philippines was recognized with two major awards at the 10th Global Good Governance (3G) Awards and Summit held on 13 May 2025 at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in Brunei Darussalam.

The SEC received the 3G Championship Award in ESG Practices 2025 and the 3G Leadership Award for Advocacy and Commitment to Corporate Governance 2025, honoring its continued efforts to promote good governance, sustainability, and responsible business practices in the Philippines. Three other Filipino companies were awarded: Jollibee Food Corporation, Robinsons Land, and San Miguel Corporation.

Held annually, the 3G Awards recognize excellence in governance across government, business, and the social sector. The awards aim to promote transparency, ethical leadership, and positive social impact by highlighting effective and innovative governance initiatives around the world. This year’s summit focused on “Transformative Governance for Health, Environment, and Community Sustainability.” In her opening remarks, Hajah Rashidah binti Haji Sabtu, Managing Director of the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank, stressed the importance of collaboration across sectors to address global health and environmental challenges.

The event featured two key panel discussions. The first, “Transforming Governance to Tackle Global Health and Environmental Priorities,” was moderated by Mr. Ramon Rivero of Robinsons Land. Atty. Mara Louise A. Ruiz, Chief Counsel of the SEC’s Corporate Governance and Finance Department, joined other experts from the UAE, Brunei, and the private sector to discuss how governance can align with environmental and economic goals.

The second panel, “Strengthening Institutions for Community Well-being and Sustainability,” was led by Dk Rodzi binti Pg Hj Abd Rahman of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam. Regional leaders shared insights on how digital tools can boost transparency, community engagement, and resilience.

Over 200 participants from various sectors attended the awards ceremony. More than 40 individuals and institutions were honored for their leadership in governance and sustainability. In his keynote speech, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei Darussalam, highlighted how the values of the 3G Awards reflect Brunei’s own focus on integrity, accountability, and inclusive development.

During the event, a total of 19 recipients were honored with awards across 28 distinct categories, recognizing their excellence and contributions in various fields. Among the distinguished awardees were prominent organizations such as Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB), Takaful Brunei, Petronas Dagangan, and Dubai Customs, each celebrated for their outstanding achievements and leadership within their respective industries.

The event also saw the launch of the Global Good Governance Report 2025, which outlines current trends and best practices in the field.

The SEC’s latest awards add to its growing list of international recognitions. Since 2021, the Commission has received several 3G Awards, including for transparency, corporate governance, ESG practices, and policy development. These honors reflect the SEC’s strong commitment to promoting sustainability and good governance in the Philippines. END
