PH Ambassador Presents Credentials to Governor General of Solomon Islands, Reaffirms Strong Bilateral Ties

PORT MORESBY 23 June 2025 — Philippine Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, and the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Solomon Islands, Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian officially presented his credentials to Governor General of the Solomon Islands Sir David Tiva Kapu in a formal ceremony at Government House on 18 June 2025. The event marks a significant step in reinforcing the 21 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Governor General Kapu welcomed the appointment as a renewed opportunity to deepen engagement, building on a strong foundation of friendship and cooperation that began with the formal establishment of diplomatic ties on 24 September 2004.
During the ceremony, both nations expressed a strong desire to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors. Governor General Kapu highlighted the Solomon Islands' eagerness to finalize Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with the Philippines on health and air services, while also seeking increased cooperation in tourism, fisheries, and agriculture. He conveyed profound gratitude for the educational support provided to Solomon Islands students in the Philippines and acknowledged the significant contributions of the Filipino community to the Solomon Islands' economy and society. In response, Ambassador Auxilian, conveying warm greetings from Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., reiterated the Philippines' commitment to strengthening economic relations and exploring new trade and investment opportunities. The Ambassador also formally requested the Solomon Islands' support for the Philippines' candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term.
Following the presentation, Ambassador Auxilian engaged in a series of high-level meetings to further advance the bilateral agenda. These included courtesy calls on the Acting Prime Minister, the Hon. Fredrick Kologeto, and the Supervising Minister of Foreign Affairs & External Trade, the Hon. Polycarp Paea. These discussions underscored the Philippines' proactive approach to its partnership with the Solomon Islands. As the Solomon Islands prepares to host the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara, the Philippines looks forward to a future of enhanced cooperation and shared prosperity, celebrating new milestones in their enduring diplomatic friendship.
