PH Embassy in Canberra Conducted Mobile Consular Mission, Townhall Meeting in the Republic of Nauru

CANBERRA 24 June 2025 — The Philippine Embassy in Canberra deployed a mobile consular mission to the Republic of Nauru on 02 to 04 June 2025.

The mission led by Philippine Ambassador to Australia Antonio A. Morales coincided with his presentation of credentials to Nauru President David W.R. Adeang.  According to the information gathered from the Filipinos and different government officials in Nauru, there are over 300 Filipinos and Nauruans of Filipino descent in the country. Of this number, 90 are OFWs and their dependents.

Ambassador Morales was accompanied by First Secretary and Consul Rainier J. Casis, Attaché Mary Irene Sadang and Labor Attaché (LabAtt) Melissa Mendizabal of the Migrant Workers’ Office (MWO) in Canberra. The mobile consular mission provided passport processing, notarials, civil registries among other services. The MWO provided services including verification of employment contracts, employment counselling, issuance of overseas employment certificates and a visit to a work site that employed Filipino workers.

The Embassy also conducted a townhall meeting with the Filipino community to update them of the services of the Embassy, which was attended by more than 50 overseas Filipinos. Consul Casis presented the Embassy services while Labatt Mendizabal presented on the services of the MWO. Ambassador Morales, in his remarks, updated the Filipino community of his presentation of credentials and meetings with Nauru Ministers and high officials.  He commended the Filipinos in Nauru for their good representation in the country that gained praises both from the Nauru employers and government officials, and which made them work on hiring more Filipinos in the island. The Filipinos were also able to raise their concerns during the meeting. END
