Philippines Elected Vice Chair of UNEP Committee of Permanent Representatives
NAIROBI 27 June 2025 — Philippine Ambassador to Kenya and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Marie Charlotte G. Tang, has been elected as one of the three Vice Chairpersons of the Bureau of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) of UNEP for the 2025-2027 term.
The election took place during the 170th meeting of the CPR on 24 June 2025.
Also elected to the Bureau were the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of Azerbaijan (Chair), Tunisia (Vice Chair), and Australia (Rapporteur).
The CPR is the main intergovernmental body that oversees the work of UNEP between sessions of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). It comprises accredited permanent representatives from UN Member States, specialized agencies, and the European Union accredited to UNEP, and meets regularly at UNEP headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
The CPR Bureau plays a key role in supporting the Committee’s efforts to advance UNEP’s mandate. It is composed of a Chairperson, three Vice Chairpersons, and a Rapporteur, with each member representing one of the five United Nations regional groups. The newly elected Bureau will serve a two-year term beginning 01 July 2025.
