GENEVA 02 July 2025 — The Philippines’ foremost women diplomats, Former Secretary of Foreign Affairs Delia D. Albert and Ambassador Rosario G. Manalo, were featured in the United Nations’ Photo Exhibition titled “ Not a Woman’s Job? Women Leading in Multilateralism and Diplomacy” at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The opening of the exhibit also marks the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, which falls on June 24.

Director-General Tatiana Valovay of the United Nations Office at Geneva delivered her opening remarks, expressing her gratitude to all the Permanent Missions that contributed to this year’s exhibition. She highlighted that this edition marks the highest number of participating states and featured women diplomats in the exhibition’s history.

Ambassador Manalo personally attended the event and delivered her brief remarks, expressing her gratitude to the organizers and reaffirming the critical role of women in diplomacy and multilateral engagement. She also highlighted the current gender equality in the Philippine foreign service, a big change from when she started as a young diplomat.

Ambassador Manalo was warmly welcomed by her former colleagues in the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and was notably well-regarded among female officials and spouses from Permanent Missions in Geneva.

The Baroness Harriet Harman KC, United Kingdom’s Special Envoy for Women and Girls, also delivered brief remarks preceding Ambassador Manalo’s address.

Following the speeches, attendees participated in a walk-through of the exhibition, which will remain open until 04 July 2025. END
