Accomplished Filipino Guitarists Play for Filipino-Spanish Audience in Madrid to Commemorate Philippine-Spain Friendship Day

MADRID 02 July 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Spain hosted another musical event featuring four accomplished Filipino guitarists in a classical guitar concert entitled, “Gitarang Mestisahin”, on 21 June 2025 at the Centro de Filipinas en Madrid.
The event was held to commemorate the 23rd Philippines-Spain Friendship Day, in coordination with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
In his remarks, DHM and Consul General Mark Francis C. Hamoy highlighted the Spanish origin of guitar and the contribution it has made to Filipino music, a wonderful example of how the friendship between the two countries evolved.
The Filipino guitarists led by Milette López Zamóra, Normando Villas Jr., Carlo Antonio Juan and Rafael Ronquillo performed a mix of Filipino and Spanish guitar pieces, introducing most of the performances with a description of how it relates to the relationship between Spain and the Philippines.
The event was well-received with more than 70 Filipinos and Spaniards attending the musical event. Filipino food was also served after the concert. END
