Philippine Embassy in Prague Celebrates Migrant Workers Day, Provides Consular Services to Filipinos in Brno
Ambassador of the Philippines to the Czech Republic Eduardo R. Meñez, together with Minister and Consul General Indhira C. Bañares and Labor Attaché Llewelyn Perez, leads the Filipinos in South Moravia in celebrating the 127th anniversary of Philippine independence Day and Migrant Workers Day and in conducting the Post-arrival Orientation Seminar at the Center for Foreigners in Brno, South Moravia on 21 June 2025.
PRAGUE 04 July 2025 — Continuing with its quarterly Consular Outreach Program, the Embassy of the Philippines returned to Brno for a third time, after its outreach activities in 2023 and 2024, due to the consistently growing community of Filipinos, mostly workers, in the South Moravian region. The region locates the fourth largest community of Filipinos in the Czech Republic as of April 2025, per the Ministry of the Interior.
According to Ambassador Eduardo R. Meñez, the decision to return to Brno also coincides with the intent of the Embassy to celebrate the 127th anniversary of Philippine independence and the Migrant Workers Day with Filipinos who reside outside the capital city of Prague.
The two-day outreach included a visit of the PH Embassy officials to the manufacturing plant of PBS at Velka Biteš, which in its 200-year history, started to hire Filipino workers for the first time. The visit allowed Ambassador Eduardo R. Meñez, together with Minister and Consul General Indhira C. Bañares and Labor Attaché Llewelyn Perez, to discuss with PBS officials the performance of Filipino workers, their welfare, and their possibilities for growth within the company. During their tour of the manufacturing plant, embassy officials were able to briefly interact with Filipino workers at their stations and get to know about their condition.
The Post-arrival Orientation Seminar, a regular highlight of the outreach program as it provides information on the consular and labor-related services of the Embassy to Filipinos in the Czech Republic, was jointly conducted with the Center for Foreigners of the South Moravian Region. CEO Alena Krejci welcomed the seminar at the Center for it contributed to raising awareness of the services it provides to foreigners, including Filipinos, in the region.
The visiting officials of the Embassy also had a dinner meeting with South Moravian Vice Governor Jan Zamečnik and Mendel University Vice Rector Martin Klimanek. END
