28 July 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to Nigeria Alex V. Lamadrid administered the oath taking to the newly elected set of officers of the Pusong Pinoy Association (PPA), the largest Filipino-based organization in Abuja, Nigeria in a ceremony held at the Philippine Embassy on July 12.

 

Ambassador Lamadrid emphasized in his message the Embassy's concern for overseas Filipino workers (OFW) security and safety in Abuja, as well as the need for financial literacy, and saving and investing for retirement. The Ambassador likewise informed the community on the health risks in Nigeria and the need for vaccination especially against polio.

 

The new set of officers are Mr. Bernard Mercado as President, Ms. Andrea Abella as Vice President, Ms. Aleli Banzuela as Secretary, Ms. Rochelle Corpuz as Treasurer, Mr. Nery Mirabueno, Jr. as PRO 1, Mr. Christian Bautista as PRO 2, and Ms. Angie Lorica as Auditor.

 

After the ceremony, the PPA unveiled its forthcoming projects and activities for the community, such as the Information Drive on Stockmarket, sportsfest, 10th  Anniversary Celebration in November and the Fiestang Pinoy.

 

The oath-taking ceremony coincided with the Registration of Members of which more than 150 members turned out for the event.
