T'boli Culture Promoted at Philippine Heritage Month Film Screening in Vienna

Filipino and foreign audiences attend the special screening of K’na the Dreamweaver at the Village Cinema Wien Mitte on 23 May 2025.

VIENNA 08 July 2025 — A public screening of the film, “K’na the Dreamweaver” captivated an audience of Filipino-Austrians and other nationalities during the Philippine Embassy’s Heritage Month Celebration last 23 May 2025 at the Village Cinema Wien Mitte. For many in the audience, this was their first encounter with the rich culture and heritage of the T’boli indigenous group from southern Philippines.

In a video message, writer and director Ms. Ida Anita del Mundo shared how the T’boli people’s rich heritage inspired her writing of the film. The Folklorico Filipino Austria organization facilitated a discussion after the film on T’boli weaving and music. A T’boli chant was performed by Filipino sopranos Ms. Missy Zavala and Ms. Erin Silangil. Also showcased were the T’boli weaving tradition of the t’nalak cloth central to the film, as well as the hegalong, a traditional two-stringed instrument.

The event was organized by the Philippine Embassy in Vienna in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Folklorico Filipino Austria. END
