NAURU 05 August 2025 — Philippine Ambassador Antonio A. Morales travelled to the Republic of Nauru on 23 June 2025 to present his credentials to Nauru President David Adeang as the Philippines’ Non-Resident Ambassador.

In their meeting, President Adeang thanked the Philippine government for its friendship, cooperation, and Filipino workers' invaluable contribution to Nauru's development. He hoped for closer collaboration on climate change, peace promotion, and sustainable development.

Ambassador Morales affirmed the Philippine government's commitment to continued collaboration with Nauru. He noted the remarkable progress in the bilateral relations which he attributed to the shared values and the contributions of overseas Filipinos in Nauru.

Ambassador Morales held a series of high-level meetings with several members of the Nauruan Cabinet, including Foreign Minister Lionel Aingimea, Health Minister Charmaine Eraidnomo Scotty, Education Minister Asterio Appi, and Transport Minister Reagan Winson Aliklik. The discussions focused on identifying and advancing new avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Philippines and Nauru across multiple sectors.

During the meetings, the Nauruan Ministers underscored the significant contributions of the Philippines and the Filipino community to Nauru’s socio-economic development and cultural vitality. They expressed appreciation for the longstanding friendship between the two nations and reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing ties.

The officials also explored the potential for new collaborative initiatives and formal agreements in key areas such as air services, education, labor mobility, and infrastructure development. The visit served as a platform to reaffirm mutual interests and lay the groundwork for deeper strategic engagement in the years ahead.

Ambassador Morales visited the ongoing climate-resilient Port of Aiwo Project which involves the construction of a new port infrastructure, including a wharf, a berth pocket, and a breakwater. It will also reconstruct port buildings, the container storage, and port security facilities to upgrade and modernize the existing port in Nauru and transform it into a more efficient, reliable, and climate-resilient international port.

The Philippine Embassy also conducted consular outreach where the Ambassador had the opportunity to  meet and greet the overseas Filipino community in Nauru in a townhall meeting. Ambassador Morales also met with the Filipino employees of Capelle and Partner, one of the largest private enterprises in Nauru.

The Philippines and Nauru celebrated 59 years of diplomatic relations on 19 February 2025. There are approximately 378 Filipinos and Nauruans of Filipino descent. END
