04 August 2014 – Seafood City Supermarket, a California-based grocery chain that caters to Filipino and Asian customers, officially opened its first branch in Waipahu, Hawaii on July 31, with a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Vice Consul Joyleen E. Santos of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, Mr. Steve Go, Chair of Seafood City Supermarket and Hawaii State Representative Ty Cullen, who is of Filipino descent, led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was witnessed by businessmen, members of the Filipino community, the Go family, the media and Filipino American patrons.
On June 29, Seafood City hosted a Community Night, which gathered around 150 of Hawaii’s prominent community and association leaders and government officials for a night of entertainment and fellowship.
The grocery chain, which has 20 stores in the US, is located at the Waipahu Town Center, in a 38,564 square-foot space, which was once a Safeway store. END
