04 August 2014 – Philippine Consul General Bernardita L. Catalla paid a courtesy call on Hong Kong Chief Executive Chun-Ying Leung on July 23.
During the call, Consul General Catalla expressed her appreciation for the Chief Executive’s support for the normalization of Philippines-Hong Kong relations. The Chief Executive agreed that a new page has been turned and that Hong Kong’s priority is to move forward its relations with the Philippines.
Consul General Catalla raised issues that affect the Filipino workers in Hong Kong such as human trafficking, exorbitant placement fees collected by Hong Kong recruitment agencies, Filipino household service workers’ (HSWs) appeal for live-out arrangements and an 8-hour work day, and the Consulate’s plan to offer training programs for skills upgrading.
Both agreed to further strengthen Philippines-Hong Kong relations in all fronts such as tourism, people to people exchanges, trade and investment, and culture. END
