06 August 2014 - The University of the Philippines President Alfredo E. Pascual visited the Midwest where he and his wife were guests of the UP Alumni Association of Wisconsin 40th Anniversary Celebrations in Milwaukee on July 13 as well as during the dinner of the UP Alumni Association of Greater Chicago in Rosemont, IL on 16 July.

In both occasions, Dr. Pascual gave a report on the status of UP for the benefit of the alumni.  The UPAA in Wisconsin donated a check amounting to $3,600 to Dr. Pascual as a testament to their continued support for their Alma Mater.  He accepted it on behalf of the University and thanked the alumni for their support.  He told them that their support will help UP succeed, “not because we have a reputation to protect but because we have a country to serve.”

Dr. Pascual was also given a private tour of the Newberry Library and the Field Museum of Chicago, which was facilitated by Ms. Almira Gilles, a UP Alumnae based in Chicago. These two Chicago institutions house a significant number of Philippine manuscripts and artifacts. On all these occasions, Dr. Pascual was accompanied by Consul General Generoso D.G. Calonge.  END
