07 August 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu attended a meeting of the Hawaii Consular Corps held at the East-West Center on July 22. The speaker was Dr. Charles Morrison, who discussed the topic: “A New Vision for the East- West Center.”

Dr. Morrison is the President of the East-West Center since 1998. He served as the international chair of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council from 2005 to 2012, and is a member of other (U.S.) national and international bodies that promote trans-Pacific security and economic cooperation.

Dr. Morrison spoke about the growth of the Asian Region and said that North America will continue to play an important role in the growth of Asia. He said that there is a strong need for harmonious international relations and stable societies. The growth of the elderly population needs to be addressed, while urbanization and the rapid growth of cities in Asia creates environmental and health problems that also need to be addressed. END
