11 August 2014 - Surabaya-based shipping company PT. Kanaka Lines owner and operator Jeffry Jocom paid a courtesy call on Philippine Consul General Jose D.R. Burgos on August 6 in the Consulate General to discuss arrangements for the upcoming launch of the Davao-Gensan-Tahuna-Bitung Shipping (DGTB) Service, scheduled for its maiden voyage from Bitung City, North Sulawesi, Indonesia on August 29 or 30.
The Consul General and Mr. Jocom discussed the upcoming Davao-Gensan-Tahuna-Bitung shipping route, including plans to export goods not only from Eastern Indonesia, but also from the large production centers in Surabaya and Java, with Sasa Port in Davao City to act as the transshipment hub to markets in Europe and China. The new route is greatly anticipated by Indonesian exporters, as at present, exports have to travel to Surabaya, then to Singapore, and thereon to other international destinations. Moreover, the new route will also open Eastern Indonesia to Philippine exports, most notably: food and beverages; electronics; and garments.
In anticipation of the launch of the shipping service, Mr. Jocom informed of an upcoming visit by his partner shipping agency from Davao City, as well as a group of exporters from General Santos City, from August 19 to 26, in order to discuss further business and trade opportunities as well as the technical aspects of the upcoming Davao-Bitung shipping service.
