13 August 2014 - Sports has always been an integral catalyst for an effective public diplomacy as it creates a wide gamut of opportunities for productive relationship, dialogue and exchanges in the international community.
Mindful of these potentials, the ASEAN Dhaka Committee (ADC), of which the Philippine Embassy is a member, formed part of its regular activities the holding of sports tournaments which are well participated in by all members of the ASEAN diplomatic community in Dhaka, in fun and friendly atmosphere.
Since the creation of the Committee in September 2013, it has held a series of sports events such as golf, table tennis and bowling.
Recently, ADC organized a badminton tournament that marked the end of its sports program for this year. The game was held at the International School Dhaka on August 9. Beginners and advanced players alike had their share of fun during the games. There were racquets flying, shuttlecock hits whooshing and onlookers screaming in awe while the kids were soaking up the water in the pool just beside the playing court.
Teams from the embassies of Singapore and Indonesia won the overall matches in the women’s and men’s divisions.
Awarding ceremony for all the games held under the ADC sports program will be conducted at the ASEAN Family Day on August 22. END
