14 August 2014 – Diplomatic officials and staff of the ASEAN missions based in Dhaka held the first joint celebration of ASEAN Day since the inception of the ASEAN Dhaka Committee (ADC) on 12 September 2013. 

The occasion was marked with a flag raising ceremony held at the grounds of the Embassy of Indonesia in the morning of August 8.  Bangladesh Minister of Foreign Affairs Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP joined the ASEAN Heads of Missions in the commemoration as chief guest.

Guided by the current ASEAN theme, “Moving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community,” ADC Chairman and Ambassador of Myanmar Myo Mint conveyed in his remarks that the ADC remains committed to creating a stronger and expanded presence of ASEAN in Bangladesh through enhanced social and economic partnership.

Foreign Affairs Minister Mahmood Ali gave testament to the remarkable contribution of ASEAN in the international community, saying that the ASEAN is an important regional economic block that “has made the most significant progress in economic integration.”

Other guests from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and media joined with Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali, ASEAN Heads of Missions and staff in a high tea which ended the program. END
