18 August 2014 – Xiamen Association of Women Entrepreneurs (XM-AWE)’s Chairperson Ms. Qiqi Chen called on Philippine Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores on August 5. Ms. Qiqi currently spearheads XM-AWE, founded in 1996 which is supported by 300 women-entrepreneurs.
Ms. Qiqi conveyed XM-AWE’s keen interest to develop ties with the Philippines through collaborative activities such as women empowerment, economic and trade, and charitable programs.
The Philippine Consulate General and XM-AWE agreed to explore possible areas of cooperation, which could be realized in late 2014 and 2015.
Consul General Flores welcomed XM-AWE’s interest, and he highlighted possible areas of cooperation between XM-AWE and the Philippines, including undertaking trade missions, cultural exchanges, joint tourism activities and charitable endeavors.
The Consul General suggested that XM-AWE could also work within the framework of Xiamen-Cebu sister city partnership as this is covered by an agreement institutionalizing various areas of cooperation.
XM-AWE’s economic delegation visited Singapore and Malaysia to explore business opportunities between their members and their South East Asian counterparts. Among their charitable activities is taking care of autistic children in Xiamen.
XM-AWE seeks to help strengthen women’s role in public affairs, promote contacts as well as encourage economic and cultural cooperation. END
