22 August 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka and the two Filipino organizations, Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB) and the Filipino Grand Alliance in Bangladesh (FGAB) joined the Philippines in its countrywide celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Apolinario Mabini by organizing a program for a cause with the theme, “Keep Inspired and Be a Hero” held at the Missionaries of Charity in Islampur, Old Dhaka on August 15.

Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo gave a brief talk on the life and works of Gat Apolinario Mabini and called on everyone present to always be inspired by Mabini and to work for the progress of their country and humanity.

“You shall cultivate the special gifts which God has granted you,... never leaving the path of righteousness and justice, and by so doing, you shall contribute to the progress of humanity.” These are Mabini’s words that describe the indispensable role of a Filipino hero in bringing respect and international recognition to the Philippines and its people.

Despite his physical disability, Apolinario Mabini remained resilient and gave his best for the interest for country. He is an icon of hope and strength.

Sister Maricor, a Filipino nun who supervises the operation of the mission, thanked everyone for sharing their time and blessings with the children of the congregation.

The Missionaries of Charity is a Catholic religious congregation founded by Mother Teresa that gives voluntary service, assistance and shelter to the poorest of the poor.  The mission based in Islampur looks after the welfare of abandoned children, ages 0-12, some of whom have health problems and physical disabilities.  END
