26 August 2014 – The Philippine Permanent Mission to ASEAN, led by the Permanent Representative, Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, participated in the ASEAN Day celebration hosted by Secretary-General Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat on August 18.

The Secretary-General and Indonesian Foreign Minister Dr. Marty Natalegawa delivered remarks during the event. The Secretary-General spoke about progress towards realizing the ASEAN Community in 2015 and the Indonesian Foreign Minister lauded the vision of ASEAN founders and noted ASEAN’s contributions to the global context today.

The winners of the “ASEAN Community Photo Contest 2014: My ASEANationality” and the “ASEAN Youth Competition on Arts and Human Rights” also received their awards during the program.

Cultural presentations from the Global Mandiri Primary School in Jakarta and the Jakarta Tourism and Cultural Office were also featured in the event program.

The members of the Philippine Mission likewise joined the ASEAN Fun Run and the ASEAN Village organized by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s Center of Education and Training (CET) last August 10.

Both the Run and the ASEAN Village, which were held back-to-back at Merdeka Square, sought to raise awareness about ASEAN among members of the Indonesian public. END
