27 August 2014 - Officials and representatives of the Filipino community in Singapore gathered at the chancery of the Philippine Embassy on August 23 for their regular meeting with Embassy officials and to take part in celebrations of key events for the month of August, such as the International Day of World’s Indigenous People’s on August 09, Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21, National Heroes Day on August 25 and the “Buwan ng Wika.”
Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales presided over the meeting. He was assisted by Embassy officers and the heads of the various attached agencies.
During the meeting, Embassy officials updated the community representatives on forthcoming Filipino cultural events and other developments. A Q&A session followed the Embassy’s presentation.
To celebrate Ninoy Aquino Day, the Embassy showed a documentary on the life of the late senator from his early days as a war correspondent in the Korean War up to his assassination at Manila International Airport in August 1981.
National Heroes Day was highlighted by the presentation of a posthumous plaque of recognition to Mr. Ronnie Albeus, the former president of the Filipino Association Singapore (FAS), the oldest Filipino community organization in the city-state. He passed away last July.
The usual Filipino salu-salo concluded the day’s events. END
