29 August 2014 – Philippine Ambassador Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. met with the Adviser of Director General for Foreign Policy of the Honduran Foreign Ministry on August 21. They discussed the trade between the Philippines and Honduras as well as the need to increase commercial exchanges between the two countries.
They also discussed other issues of mutual concern such as coordinating development in the region as well as the presence of Filipinos in Honduras.
On August 22, the Ambassador met with the executives of Operadora Portuaria Centroamericana (OPC), part of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) Group of Companies. Ambassador Dilem together with Finance Officer Randy Hilot and Honorary Consul Tito Bendeck Bonilla was welcomed as they arrived at the offices of OPC in Puerto Cortes. Most of the OPC officers were present during the visit.
The next day, the Ambassador visited the Filipino community in Cortes and Villanueva. He likewise explained the importance of overseas voters registration to the Filipino community and encouraged them to register and exercise their right of suffrage in the upcoming 2016 presidential and senatorial elections. He also talked about their Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) membership, and the opportunities and benefits to be derived from it.
Ambassador Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. was accompanied by deputized COMELEC representative Randy S. Hilot, as Voter Registration Machine (VRM) Operator in the Philippine Embassy in charge of handling the registration of qualified voters under the Embassy’s jurisdiction.
The VRM Operator registered 81 qualified applicants during the two-day overseas voters registration. The Filipinos in Honduras expressed their appreciation for the overseas voters registration in their area. According to them, it has been a long time since they last voted in Philippine elections. END
