29 August 2014 - Twelve (12) exhibitors from the Philippines, through the initiative of the Department of Agriculture, participated in the 2014 Hong Kong Food Expo, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) from August 13 to 17 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The Philippine Consulate General provided its support during the event and was invited to grace the Joint Opening Ceremony of the Food Expo and the inaugural Home Delights Expo on August 13. Philippine Consul General Bernardita Catalla shared the stage with other distinguished guests, traders and diplomats to unveil the marker of the event during the Opening Ceremony.
The Philippines, having participated in the event for several years, unveiled its Philippine pavilion and showcased Philippine products and commodities. The Philippine Pavilion was manned by an exclusive distributor and authorized retail seller, Johnny Hui of A-Plus Consultant Ltd.
The Philippine Consulate General encourages Filipino agricultural traders to continually engage in the Hong Kong market and tap into several distributors in Hong Kong to help promote their products. In fact, Consul General Catalla invited the Philippine exhibitors to display their products inside the premises of the Philippine Consulate to promote and gain awareness of their products to the Consulate’s visitors.
As reported in HKTDC’s website (www.hktdc.com), more than 460,000 public visitors attended the 25th edition of the HKTDC Food Expo and the Home Delights Expo. This year’s Food Expo attracted more than 1,180 exhibitors from 26 countries and regions. The Fair’s Trade Hall featured 14 group pavilions including new pavilions from the Australian state of New South Wales, the Chinese mainland province of Gansu, Thailand, and the Philippines.
