29 August 2014 – The Filipino Film Festival in Milan, organized by the Philippine Consulate General, in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, concluded on August 20 with a film entitled, “Sonata”, directed by cinema legends, Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes, at the San Lorenzo Theater in Milan.

The story centered on the life of Regina Cadena, played by actress Cherie Gil, who is a disgraced opera singer and an idealistic young boy named Jonjon. Regina, who has shut herself from the world, meets JonJon who is full of enthusiasm and compassion and the two form an inspiring friendship. Apart from its touching story, the movie features remarkable cinematography, with beautiful images of the rural life in the Negros province and delightful music including some opera pieces.

The three movies presented during the Festival which started on August 7 relayed stories about Philippine social issues that almost anyone can relate to. Viewers were delighted to have witnessed remarkable Filipino films and look forward to next year’s film festival.

The film “Sonata” was one of the entries in the All-Masters Edition of the Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival 2013 organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines. END
