04 September 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Abuja headed by Ambassador Alex V. Lamadrid visited the Filipino community in Ghana to conduct a seminar on prevention of Ebola virus disease (EVD) on August 16 in Accra at the Philippine Honorary Consulate headed by Honorary Consul Alex Quarmyne.
During the seminar, Ambassador Lamadrid briefed the Filipino community on the symptoms of EVD and ways of avoiding contamination by the disease. He urged them to immediately coordinate with the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Ghana in case of emergency. The Ambassador likewise gave the OFWs the contact details of Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) officers of the Philippine Embassy. No Filipino in Ghana has been infected with EVD.
Finally, Ambassador Lamadrid exhorted the OFWs in Accra to observe elementary rules of hygiene, refrain from shaking hands or eating bush meat, avoid crowded places, and report any suspected case of EVD to the proper health authorities. END
