Xiamen

11 September 2014 - The Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX) held a charity event on August 17 by visiting the Xiamen Lily Garden Home, a charitable institution for elderly Chinese in Gulangyo Island, Xiamen City.

Philippine Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores, led a group of 27 FAX officers and members and six foreign volunteers in giving a day of entertainment, fun and gifts to the elderly residents of the hospice. A Filipino band, performed several songs, including some Chinese songs, to the delight of the elderly residents.

Consul General Flores, in a brief message, spoke about the Philippines as a caring and sharing society, underlying the Filipinos’ core value of taking care of their elders as demonstrated by the initiative taken by FAX to hold such an event. FAX was commended for organizing the event which exemplifies people-to-people contacts and thereby strengthening friendship and understanding between Filipinos and Fujians.

Miss Liu, the nursing home’s administrator, expressed appreciation for the initiative of the Filipinos to show their compassion and kindness to the elderly even for a day. The hospice residents, who are already in their 80s and 90s, were visibly moved by the gesture shown by the Filipinos and their fellow volunteer friends. END
