15 September 2014 - To honor this year’s admirable list of Filipino films in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Philippine Consul General Junever M. Mahilum-West hosted a dinner for the country’s film industry’s stalwarts, acclaimed director Carlito Siguion-Reyna, producer/writer Bibeth Orteza and indie-film maker Anthony Gedang participating in TIFF from September 4 to 14.
Filipino film entries at this year’s TIFF included Siguion-Reyna’s “Hari ng Tondo”, Joel Lamangan’s “Hustisya”, and Lav Diez’s “Mula sa Kung Ano ang Noon”. All three were present during the premier night’s showing of their respective films, with a “Q and A” session with film enthusiasts.
Indie film producer Mr. Gedang generously donated to the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto the rights to show for fund-raising purposes two of his well-known indie films, “Edna” and “Ataul for Rent”. Also in attendance were film sales agents/producers Ferdinand Lapuz and Dennis Evangelista.
The star-studded festival is hosted annually by the city of Toronto, bringing together the film industry’s stars and A-rated players including budding actors and actresses, famed film and “indie” directors, producers, writers and editors and behind-the-scene workers from various countries in a widely-publicized cultural and charitable event “with a mission to transform the way people see the world, through film”.
