15 September 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia, in collaboration with Sheraton Porto Alegre Hotel, successfully held the 3rd Philippine Gastronomic Festival at the hotel´s Porto Alegre Bistrô from September 4 to 6. This year's edition of the festival featured Filipina Chef Milagros Pangilinan Villanueva of Brasilia, who, along with Sheraton´s renowned Executive Chef, Mauro Sousa, showcased Filipino cuisine to residents of Porto Alegre.

Sheraton Hotel, one of the leading international hotels in Brazil, periodically features cuisines from various countries as part of Sheraton’s Gastronomy Festivals held every year. The Philippines was invited for the third time to participate in the Festival.

As in the previous festivals, Filipino favorites like adobong manok sa gata, kare-kare, beef kaldereta, chicken relleno, ginataang hipon, lumpianita Filipina, pansit and native Filipino salads were served to the restaurant patrons. Desserts such as sans rival, the now famous brazo de mercedes, and cassava cake were also served.  Dried mangoes, pili nuts, as well as tourism and cultural promotion materials were distributed to the hotel’s guests and special patrons for the duration of the Philippine Food Festival.

Due to the repeated success of the Sheraton Porto Alegre Hotel Philippine Food Festival, the Embassy received a request to replicate and expand this cultural promotion project in popular touristic city Gramado next year.  END
