16 September 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, in cooperation with the Filipino community in Laos, celebrated “Buwan ng Wika” on August 30 with an activity for kids entitled “Filipino ang Wika Ko.

The event kicked off with the singing of the Philippine national anthem. Ms. Rowena Nafianog, a teacher at Kiettisack International School facilitated the Saturday afternoon activity that had some 26 Filipino kids and their parents in attendance. Ms. Nafianog, through a powerpoint presentation, familiarized the kids with the Philippine flag and the other national symbols of the country. She also shared short stories on the lives of President Manuel L. Quezon as “Ama ng Wika” and Dr. Jose Rizal as “Pambansang Bayani.” A short quiz was given to the kids to gauge their learning. Mr. Sherwin Cuyangan, a teacher at Kiettisack International School,  sang “Ang Bayan Kong Pilipinas” by Freddie Aguilar to encourage the kids to love their country.  

The program ended with a “Rizal Salute” given in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal.

After the event, the kids enjoyed a simple refreshment of Filipino style spaghetti, sandwiches, and ice drop.  END
