17 September 2014 – Following the previous week’s foray into Silicon Valley, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco’s Consulate-on-Wheels returned, this time to San Jose, to extend consular services to the growing community of Filipinos residing in the technology and innovation hub of California.

The Consulate-on-Wheels is a regular outreach service provided by the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco in coordination with the local communities in areas under its jurisdiction.

The consular team rendered a total of 130 services during the one-day outreach, held on August 31 at the Community Center of the Eastridge Mall. Filipinos in the area were able to avail themselves of services such as passport renewal, authentication and acknowledgment of documents, and filing of reports of births and marriages. Most applicants opted as well to register as overseas voters, in preparation for the upcoming Philippine elections in 2016.

Mr. Eddy Alvarez, the lead coordinator for the San Jose outreach, thanked the Consulate General team for coming to San Jose. He reminded Filipinos in the area that another team would be returning to the same venue on November 2.

In support of overseas Filipinos’ right to vote in Philippine elections, the consular outreach teams will also be offering overseas voters registration during their outreaches until October 2015. Any Filipino citizen present in the Consulate’s areas of jurisdiction during the voting period of May 2016, and will be at least 18 years of age by 09 May 2016, is eligible to register as an overseas voter.
