honolulu222 September 2014 – Mr. Allan Alvarez, host of Radio KPHI 96.7 FM and 1130 AM paid a courtesy call on Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin on September 5.

KPHI, Hawaii's premier Filipino radio station is the Philippine Consulate General’s direct connection to the Filipino community in Hawaii through its “ConGen’s Corner” radio program. The program ran monthly, then biweekly, then became weekly during the 2013 Philippine election coverage, when the Consulate saw fit to inform the Filipino community about election guidelines.

The program format starts with a live on air discussion of current events and issues relevant to Filipinos, then announcements or advisories from the Consulate General on forthcoming activities and projects.

The program is popular among a wide segment of Filipinos, many of whom are avid listeners while at work, driving, or taking breaks. Listeners sometimes phone questions. The format makes the Filipino community closer to the Consulate General and makes it easier to disseminate information, according to host Allan Alvarez. The program is aired in both English and Filipino. Past episodes are recorded on YouTube.

Allan Alvarez is an award-winning radio host, along with his spouse, Attorney Rhoda Yabes Alvarez, who has her own radio segment. Attorney Alvarez recently won the Migration Advocacy and Media (MAM) Award by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas.

KPHI 1130 AM & 96.7 FM is also heard statewide on Time Warner Cable channel 882 along with the I Heart Radio Application for smart phones.

Radio KPHI, whose call sign stands for the Philippines, will have a special broadcast on September 19 at 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Honolulu time featuring Consul General Jamoralin live at the KPHI studio with live video streaming. END
