23 September 2014 - Philippine Consul General Marciano R. De Borja met with Mayor Joana Margaret Blas of Asan-Maina on September 18 to discuss possible locations for the installation of a new life-size statue of Apolinario Mabini in Asan, site of the presidio where Mabini and his compatriots were confined during their exile in Guam. The meeting with Mayor Blas was a follow-up to the presentation that Consul General De Borja made at the Mayors’ Council of Guam (MCG) meeting on September 3.
Consul General De Borja presented to Mayor Blas the perspective sketch done by Mr. Rolly Zepeda and blueprint prepared by Mr. Meliton Santos of the Guam Filipino Artists showing how the Mabini statue will look once installed. Both sides agreed to move ahead with the project and to formalize this agreement in writing.
After the meeting, Mayor Blas showed the Consul General two possible sites very near the Asan Mayor’s office where the Mabini statue could be installed.
The Mabini statue is a donation of First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities and was sculpted by renowned Filipino artist Julie Lluch to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Apolinario Mabini. END
