23 September 2014 - Philippine Consul General in Agana Marciano R. De Borja paid a courtesy call on Rear Admiral Bette Bolivar, Commander of Joint Region Marianas, Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Marianas, and U.S. Defense Representative to Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau. Rear Admiral Bolivar warmly received Consul General De Borja at her office at the Joint Region Marianas Headquarters on Nimitz Hill by greeting him, “Mabuhay and Hafa adai!”
Rear Admiral Bolivar is the first woman and Filipino American commander of Joint Region Marianas. She assumed command of the only Joint Region in the Department of Defense on August 15 from her predecessor Rear Admiral Tilghman Payne.
Consul General De Borja and Rear Admiral Bolivar assumed their respective duties on Guam at almost the same time. They both agreed to establish a good working relationship between the Philippine Consulate General and Joint Region Marianas to reflect the special partnership between the Philippines and the United States.
