honolulu2a24 September 2014 - Filipino women “fashionistas” in Hawaii showcased the charm and elegance of the Philippine “Maria Clara” dress in the recent 43rd Annual Maria Clara Ball organized by the Filipino Women’s Civic Club (FWCC) on September 13 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel in Honolulu.

Philippine Consul General in Hawaii Gina A. Jamoralin, who was the guest speaker for the event, congratulated the FWCC on its 63rd anniversary of the group and for successfully showcasing the timeless beauty  and tradition of the “Maria Clara”.

Donning a Philippine barong tagalog was Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell who was also invited as special guest during the event.

Consul General Jamoralin encouraged the group to continue its civic activities particularly in promoting Filipino creativity and artistry through fashion and by inviting noted Filipino designers to Hawaii. The event is a culmination of the group’s fund raising activities to support scholarships for deserving Filipino students in Hawaii.

The same evening, Philippine Consulate staff, Mr. Jeffrey de Mesa, also bagged the third prize for the “Best in Barong Tagalog” (male category). END
