30 September 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Nestor Z. Ochoa was invited as Guest of Honor to grace the opening of the 31st Southeast Asia Overseas Filipino Bowlers (SEAOFB) Invitational Bowling Tournament held at the Mega Strike Bowling Centre, Airport Mall, Berakas, Brunei Darussalam on September 27.
Ambassador Ochoa formally opened the tournament through the ceremonial ball roll off, along with the contingent heads from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Ambassador Ochoa was also invited as Guest of Honor during the Awarding and Fellowship Night for the 31st SEAOFB Invitational Bowling Tournament held at the Badi’ah Hotel, Jalan Tutong, Brunei Darussalam on September 28.
In his message, Ambassador Ochoa commended the Filipino Bowlers’ Club Brunei (FBCB) for successfully organizing the tournament, and congratulated all the participants who took part in promoting the sport. He assured the FBCB that the Philippine Embassy will continue to support the group’s future undertakings.
In 2000, a group of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Johor Bahru started a friendly bowling game with the main purpose of building a network with other OFW groups through sports. The friendly games grew into an invitational tournament, reaching across other OFWs in the ASEAN region, which eventually evolved into the Southeast Asia Overseas Filipino Bowlers Invitational Bowling Tournament.
