07 October 2014 - Philippine Consul General Marichu Mauro welcomed Mr. Ken Samudio at the Philippine Consulate General on September 25. Mr. Samudio, a graduate of marine biology and with no formal training in fashion, was selected as one of Italy’s Vogue Talents for 2014.
Mr. Samudio’s colorful urchin-inspired accessories were admired by Italian and foreign buyers for its uniqueness and creativity. His pieces are made from recycled water bottles which were formed into plastic beads. He also used recycled linings from old furniture as base for most of his pieces. Italian fashion buyers and merchandisers have already placed orders for his various exquisite fashion pieces.
The Vogue Super Talents exhibition at the Pitti Immagine Fair 2014 featured collections of young and talented designers from Philippines, Thailand, Ukraine, Austria and Israel, offering new styles and trends in the world fashion scene.
Mr. Samudio launched his label Ken Samudio in 2011 offering handmade and one-of-a-kind accessories and jewelry which combine various materials. He was also chosen as one of the representatives from the Philippines to the International Fashion Showcase at the London Fashion Week in February 2014.
His spring/summer 2015 collection is featured in the 50th anniversary September issue of Vogue Italia magazine. He felt very proud to have been given an opportunity to represent the Philippines in such a prestigious fair and looks forward to introducing more of his creations to the Italian fashion market. END
