07 October 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon promoted Philippine textiles and crafts at the ASEAN Culture Fair 2014 held on October 1 at the National Theater in Yangon, Myanmar.

The ASEAN Culture Fair 2014, organized by the Ministry of Culture, coincides with Myanmar’s hosting of the 12th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council (ASCC) Meeting held from September 28 to 29 in Bagan.

The Philippine exhibit featured costumes of the Igorot and Mandaya, textiles made of pineapple and abaca, and crafts made of shells, wood, coconut, rattan and natural fibers. The Philippine Exhibit also showcased the Philippine christmas celebration through a display of the Pampanga parol (lantern) and christmas decors.

Apart from the exhibit, the ASEAN Culture Fair also featured a musical extravaganza and a fashion show parade of indigenous costumes from 10 ASEAN countries.

The Fiber Industry Development Authority (FIDA) of the Department of Agriculture provided most of the items put on display. END
